A Growing Community
Princess Anne is the southern part of the city of Virginia Beach. It began to developed in the 80s and 90s and now is a vibrant and growing suburban community about 20 minutes inland from the main beachfront. It features the city municipal center (built around the 1824 courthouse pictured above), housing developments, new shopping areas, nearby military bases, a large athletic complex and three public high schools. As in the rest of the area, the military is the dominant employer, both directly at the bases and indirectly through civilian defense contractors. Other residents work in retail, tourism, healthcare, or municipal government.
